Margot is a beautiful, brave, loving and cheeky little angel, forever 2 years old, with an infectious smile and luscious red hair…always with a stylish bow.
After Margot was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of blood cancer in October 2013, at just 14 months old, her family and friends came together as Team Margot to raise awareness of Margot’s plight and that of others like her desperately seeking a blood stem cell donor match. In 2014, Margot was one of 1,800 people in the UK in desperate need of a lifesaving bone marrow or stem cell transplant. The donor appeal launched on Christmas Eve last year has been recognised as the most high profile global donor appeal anywhere in the world. As a result the charity, Delete Blood Cancer UK had over 37,000 new potential donors in the UK alone, but the drive continues.
Team Margot is committed to raising awareness around the need for more stem cell donor recruits and in particular more recruits with a mixed genealogy. Margot’s mixed family background was the key difficulty in finding her a perfect match.
Our initial goal: to help increase the number of people on the UK stem cell registries to 2.5 million (currently there are less than 1 million people registered).
